The line is calculated so the piece settles along the collarbones and does not tip to one side. A line of round-cut diamonds runs the full length; at the centre hangs a detachable pendant — a radiant-cut ruby in prongs beneath two round diamonds. Without it the necklace is worn as a tennis line. The radiant cut was devised for colour: its facets gather the hue towards the centre, so the stone reads richer than it would in a step cut. Ruby is red corundum — the same mineral as sapphire; chromium makes it red, and the same chromium makes it glow faintly in sunlight. 18K white gold.
